Thruxton’s 2.36 mile track is widely known as the fastest track on the calendar and the circuit is guaranteed to provide great racing all weekend.
Speaking ahead of Thruxton, Bert Taylor was optimistic that the new team would be in a great position to continue with the positive progress made at Brands Hatch and Donington.
“At Donington we came so close to our first podium of the season, Dave had a cracking race and we were all delighted with a top 4 finish.”
“However, we are an ambitious team and we want that first podium to come as soon as possible.”
The team is realistic, acknowledging that Thruxton is a challenging circuit, with it suiting the characteristics of some cars better than others. But the team relish the opportunity to continue improving each weekend, and hope to finish the weekend with a strong points haul.
Dave Newsham drove a thrilling race 3 at Donington Park, and is keen to keep the momentum going at Thruxton this weekend.
“Coming off the back of good results at Donington Park, I hope we can keep that form going, if not improve on it heading into Round 3 of the BTCC Championship at Thruxton.” said Dave.
“As a driver, l like the circuit. It has an average lap speed of 110mph and topping 150mph, so it certainly demands your attention! It will be important that we qualify well on Saturday, but having a well balanced chassis that looks after its tyre is equally important. I believe we have that in the BTC Norlin Racing Chevrolet.”
Team mate Chris has had less running time at Thruxton, but he is primed and ready for the challenges that the circuit presents. Testing at the circuit last month provided Chris with valuable seat time, enabling him to familiarise himself with the track in preparation for this weekend.
Whilst getting ready for the weekend, Chris was focused on his goal. “I am looking forward to this weekend, at the fastest track on the calendar. It is only my second ever race at Thruxton so I am still learning the track.”
“I will be happy with a solid weekend and some points. I am very thankful for all the hard work BTC Norlin Racing have put in over the past weeks, they are an enthusiastic bunch… I cannot wait to get started.”
The action kicks off at Thruxton at 9:50am on Saturday 6th May, with the first free practice session of the weekend.
Qualifying is at 16:10 on Saturday 6th May, and can be watched live on www.itv.com/btcc
