During FP1 the team spent time scrubbing the tyres for Sunday and completing some longer runs to provide drivers James Nash and Chris Smiley with time to get reacquainted with the circuit.
With temperatures still rising, James and Chris got back to work for the final practice session of the day in FP2. Both drivers completed a number of laps, and got a good feel for the cars and preparation for the afternoon was going well.
An even hotter qualifying kicked off and having put the morning sessions behind them, Chris and James were keen to wring more from the Honda Civics.
"I am over the moon with the progress that we have made today. We started the day feeling a little disappointed, but we have seen both cars improving on their earlier times."
With some time spent earlier in the day, Chris had reviewed his data with the team and knew what he needed to do to shave some time off his lap. In lap 9, he put the car through it’s paces and put himself 10th on the grid for race one tomorrow.
James also found time around the Hampshire circuit after the morning session, and qualified 22nd.
Team manager Bert Taylor was very pleased with the progress made today.
“I am over the moon with the progress that we have made today. We started the day feeling a little disappointed, but we have seen both cars improving on their earlier times.”
“Smiley is carrying 30kg of ballast, so it will be great to see what he can do from 10th. James hasn’t driven a lap around Thruxton since 2011, but we have every confidence that he can race up the grid tomorrow from 22nd!”
ITV4 coverage kicks off tomorrow from 11:15am with race one starting shortly after 12pm.
